Just so everyone is aware, there is a bunch of misleading info being spread around re: ALS research - the “27%” figure is based on previous years’ annual funding; furthermore, the remainder goes to improving the quality of life of those suffering from ALS. Given that the annual funding is approximately 16M, that’s just over 4M spent on decreasing their suffering. It isn’t greed, it’s a lack of money.”

Shut up already.

The ALS Association has a 4-star rating from Charity Watchdog.

And the next time you start to complain about a charity either a) working on multiple fronts (because that’s what ALSA does—both seeking a cure and helping people suffering now) or b) daring to have administration expenses—let’s see how long you can last, much less tackle a cause, without printer paper and an internet connection.

As someone who has watched a family member die from a neuro-degenerative disease; funding to develop better wheelchairs and bedsore creams is *just* as important as funding research to cure the disease itself…

A friend of mine posted an update from one of HER friends to FB earlier.  Her dad has ALS.  The ALS foundation came out to see if they could put in a ramp for his wheelchair, but they couldn’t afford it because of the kind of ramp he needed for the kind of house they had.

This week they called back and said hey, the thing is, we suddenly have a bunch of money, so we’re coming out to build that ramp.  And they did.  She posted pics.

So if you feel like bitching about the ice bucket challenge…reconsider.

Forget the Myers-Briggs fucking personality assessment. I am dead tired of hearing if someone is an INFP or an ESLQ or whatever. I want to know if someone is melancholic or choleric. Bring back the four humors. I wanna see “Kaley, 16, phlegmatic” when I go to someone’s blog. Who is with me. Lets make this happen

here's a test i found. go wild, y'all. (im choleric.)

melancholic here

HELPFUL TIP: YOU CAN SELL YOUR PLASMA FOR A LOT OF MONEY AND YOUR BOD MAKES IT REALLY FAST

veggieblt:

Okay so kind of sad story about this. I actually have known about this for a while because of my first year of college. Classes and materials were so expensive my roommates had to sell plasma so they wouldn’t end up in massive amounts of debt.

Higher education in the US is so expensive that paying in fucking blood is legitimately one of the best ways to survive.

Actually, before Hitler’s regime, the masculine color was pink and blue was the color for females. This all changed when Hitler started using colored stars to identify the people in his camps, such as yellow for the Jews. Homosexuals were forced to wear pink stars, so pink was then seen as feminine. Long story short, baby boys are wrapped in blue and baby girls are swathed in pink because of Hitler.

That’s only one possible explanation, and I personally don’t find it very likely. Mostly because the roots of the divide go back far *before* WWII, and things weren’t really settled until far *after*.

First off, I kinda doubt Hitler had too great an affect. Don’t forget that most of the world outright *ignored* what happened to homosexuals under his regime (many were just silently re-imprisoned). So, that doesn’t really fit. People didn’t even start discussing that side of the Holocaust until the 70s, so how would it have affected popular culture?

Another possible reason is that naval uniforms were blue, and since it was a thing to dress young boys in navy style clothing, well, you can see how that came about. So the seeds of the divide can be found much earlier.

Next is the fact that the divide itself didn’t really set in until the 1980s. This was around the time that gender-neutral clothing died out. And the most likely reason for both: good old marketing. People were now able to find out ahead of time the sex of their soon-to-be-borns, which meant they could buy all girl or boy without having to worry. And since retailers and manufactures believe specialized products sell better, they shifted clothing from gender-neutral to gender-specific. (source)

Basically, while the origins of the pink/blue thing are a bit foggy, and the Hitler aspect may have contributed in some way, the fact is it started way before Hitler, and didn’t settle until way after.
